How the balance works

Credit is dollars, not points.

Your plan does not hand you a bucket of opaque credit units. It adds a month of usage to one balance, in dollars, drawn down at the per-character rate printed on your plan.

    Each renewal adds the month's usage to one workspace balance. It expires at the end of the billing period; money you top up yourself never does.

    Every request draws from it

    Synthesis is drawn down per character at your plan's rate, in dollars, so what a request costs is arithmetic you can do yourself.

    After that, pay as you go

    Past the balance, a paid plan spends whatever you have topped up, at the same rates. Auto top-up, off until you switch it on, keeps production from stalling. Free pauses until the next month.

Is the Speechify API a subscription?
Only if you choose a paid plan, and only month to month. Starter, Pro and Scale are monthly plans with no annual commitment. Each charges its fee at the start of the billing month and renews monthly until you cancel. Cancel or downgrade anytime from Billing in the console. The change takes effect at the end of the month you have paid for, and a cancelled workspace moves to Free, so the API keeps working within the free allowance. Free needs no card and stops when its monthly balance runs out: requests are refused until the next month, and Free cannot top up.
Is this the same as my Speechify app subscription?
No. SpeechifyAI is Speechify's developer API, billed separately from the Speechify Reader app. A Reader subscription does not include API usage. API plans, usage and payment are managed in the console at platform.speechify.ai. For the Reader app, see speechify.com.
What exactly do I get for the monthly fee?
A month of text-to-speech usage, plus the plan's rates, limits, and features. Starter covers 1.9M characters of Simba 3.0 or 3.2, Pro 13.5M, and Scale 78M. It arrives as one balance in dollars, drawn down at your plan's per-character rate for the model you call. Simba 3.5 lists at twice their rate: Starter's balance buys 1.9M characters of Simba 3.5 until 21 Nov 2026, 950K after.
Can I buy voice agents on one of these plans?
Voice agents are an enterprise product. Deployments are scoped with our team and priced per contract, so there is no self-serve plan and no published per-minute rate. Talk to sales and we will scope the deployment, the volume, and the telephony with you. Workspaces already running agents are unaffected.
Does the unused balance roll over?
The monthly balance is minted at the start of each billing period and expires at the end of it, so it does not roll over. Money you add yourself is different: a top-up you purchase stays on your balance until you spend it.
How is usage calculated?
Text to speech is billed by the characters of text that are spoken. SSML tags are not counted, and neither is whitespace at the very start or end of the input; the spaces between words are.
Are there hidden fees or commitments?
No. The per-character rate on your plan is the rate you pay, there is no annual commitment on a self-serve plan, and you can cancel anytime from Billing in the console.
What happens when the balance runs out?
On Starter, Pro, and Scale, usage carries on against whatever you have topped up, drawn at your plan's rate for the model you call. Simba 3.0 and 3.2 bill $10/$8/$6 per 1M characters on Starter/Pro/Scale. Simba 3.5 lists at $20/$16/$12, billed at $10/$8/$6 until 21 Nov 2026. If that runs to zero too, requests pause until you add funds, so switch on auto top-up if production must never stall. It is off until you turn it on. Free cannot top up at all and simply pauses until the next billing cycle. On a paid plan the console flags a low balance, and we email you if requests start being refused for credit.
How do I add more money?
From Billing in the console. You can buy a top-up whenever you like, and turn on auto top-up to add a set amount whenever the balance drops below a threshold. A top-up is paid up front and does not expire. Auto top-up stays off until you turn it on. It is all in dollars at the published rates, so there are no opaque credit units and no guessing what a request costs. The free tier cannot top up.
Can I switch plans at any time?
Yes, from Billing in the console. An upgrade applies immediately: the new plan's monthly fee is charged that day, which becomes your new billing date. A downgrade or cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing month, so you keep the plan and its included usage until then.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cards, processed by Stripe. You add one in the console under Billing, and the free tier needs none. Enterprise payment terms follow your agreement.

Self-serve plans (Free, Starter, Pro, and Scale) are month to month, with no annual contract or lock-in. Enterprise plans follow the terms of your agreement.
